Quiet, contemplative time. Arrive before prayers to spend time anywhere in the Fire House, including outside on the roof. Engage in a written conversation with the week’s parasha (as experienced at the spring’s Kitchen Shavuot and the Avivah Zornberg retreat).
Words, phrases and lines from the week’s parasha and other sources will be provided on sheets of paper. For those who don’t write on Shabbat, the source/prompt sheet will be available online. Also, some may choose to spend this time in quiet contemplation.
Shabbat morning services featuring (in lieu of a formal Torah service) an in-the-moment composition made of our written conversations with words from the Torah.
This is us – Kitchenites -- Jews in San Francisco in 2017/5778 -- taking Torah to heart, pulling it close by writing into the spaces between the ancient lines.
