We're heading to the woods for an off-the-grid, 36 hours of shabbos goodness.  Take a deep breath, relax, and dig deep into shabbat. This is going to be good.

A shabbaton with The Kitchen is your path to an all-inclusive, weekend getaway escape. It's one part relaxation, one part Jewish, one part inspiration.

This year, we will head north to Camp Newman in Santa Rosa, for a weekend where we will learn, create, connect and play. We'll celebrate Shabbat through a program that includes activities for kids, families and adults; communal meals; and learning.

We will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday and end at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Please plan to come and stay for the whole time!

FAQs
Who is this shabbaton for?
People who have never celebrated shabbat or who celebrate shabbat every weekend. People who go pray once a day, once a year, or once in life. People with kids and without. Freedom School families, Kitchenites, non-Kitchenites, anyone looking to do more Jewish, in context and in community.

What is a shabbaton?
Never been to a shabbaton before? No problem. It's really just a getaway escape. Mostly unplugged. Sort of off the grid. And definitely mind-expanding. Soul-nourishing, too. Can you tell we're excited?

What is this going to be like?
Think of it kind of like camp, but without the counselors. We're working to create a space that feels like home, where you can ask questions, get some answered and build community. We will have some organized learning together, some structured fun, some celebrating of Shabbat, delicious meals, free time, etc.

When do I need to be where?
You should plan to arrive at Camp Newman by 5:00 PM on Friday. On Sunday, we'll wrap up by mid-morning. Traffic heading north can be rough on a Friday afternoon, so plan to leave plenty of time.

How do I get there?
You'll drive!  Here are directions to the camp.

What is Camp Newman?
The camp is the West Coast's largest Reform camp. You probably know someone who's been there. Or whose kid has been there. You can learn more about it here.

What’s the deal with housing?
Camp Newman has plenty of cabin and housing configurations to meet our various needs. Bring your own sleeping bag, sheets, pillows, whatever will make your bunk your own.

Can I make a housing request?
Retreat registration will include a space for participants to request or make note of sleeping arrangement needs. We will do our best to meet housing requests, but cannot guarantee all of them will be met.

What if I have a baby/a kiddo/multiple kiddos?
Yeah, we get it. Having a baby is hard and the thought of sleeping in a cabin with said little one and *other people* at the same time seems like a bit much. Drop us a line and we'll put you on a first-come, first-served list for private cabins for those with little ones.

What will we do?
Think praying in an outdoor redwood grove, hikes, sports, arts and crafts, learning sessions. There may even be a talent show. We're not saying you shouldn't prepare something, just in case.
